clerk_of_law--1000The Anambra state water law was given assent by the Governor, HE Willie Obiano, in August 2015. An implementation plan is currently being developed. A clean copy of the Cross River State water bill was forwarded to the new governor in June 2015.

The former governor had not transmitted the water bill to the House of Assembly. The Governor instructed that a copy of the bill be transmitted to the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) to review and brief him in July 2015. The SMWR is following up with the SSG The Jigawa State TAT facilitated meetings with the outgoing members of the State House of Assembly on the need for the water bill to be passed before the end of their tenure. They also
provided support to the WCA coalition to communicate and engage with members of House of Assembly on the passage of the water bill.

Unfortunately these activities were unsuccessful and renewed efforts to mobilise the new members of the House of Assembly are planned to ensure continued debate of the bill. In Kano State the Water Law is awaiting the Governor’s assent. The TAT is supporting the Ministry of Water Resources to gain the Governor’s support. The previous Osun State House of Assembly passed the water bill into law in June 2015. The Office of Regional Integration has sent the law for final printing before it is presented to the Governor for his assent.

The Yobe State Water Law is currently in the governor’s office awaiting deliberation by the State Executive Council before it progresses to the State House of Assembly for approval. It is envisaged that the state governor will sign the law in December 2015.
